Back up and restore your recovery phrase

Your 12-word recovery phrase is the only way to restore your wallet. Here is how to save it safely and how to use it on a new phone.

SatPocket creates your recovery phrase on your phone and keeps it there, encrypted. Nobody else has a copy, including us. If you lose your phone and don't have the phrase, nobody can recover your funds.

Never share your recovery phrase.Anyone with it can take your funds. SatPocket support will never ask for it.

Back up your recovery phrase

  1. Open the backup screen

After you create a wallet, the home screen shows Back up your wallet. Tap Back up. You can also go to Settings → Security & privacy → Back up recovery phrase.

  2. Enter your passcode

SatPocket asks for your 6-digit passcode before it shows the words.

  3. Reveal and write down the words

Make sure nobody can see your screen, then tap Tap to reveal. Write down all 12 words in order, and check each one. SatPocket blocks screenshots on this screen.

  4. Store it offline

Keep the paper somewhere private and safe from fire and water. Don't store the words in a photo, a cloud note or an email.

  5. Confirm your backup

Tick I have saved this recovery phrase somewhere private and offline, then tap Done.

Restore your wallet on a new phone

  1. Open SatPocket

Install SatPocket on your Android phone and open it. On the welcome screen, tap Restore wallet.

  2. Enter your recovery phrase

Type your 12 words in order, separated by spaces. SatPocket also accepts 24-word phrases.

  3. Set a passcode

Enter a new 6-digit passcode and confirm it. It can differ from the one on your old phone.

  4. Wait for the restore

SatPocket shows its progress while it restores your wallet. Your balances and activity appear when it finishes.

If SatPocket already has a wallet on this phone, log out first in Settings → Security & privacy → Log out. Logging out erases the wallet from the phone, so make sure you have the recovery phrase for that wallet too.

A recovery phrase from another wallet app may show different addresses or balances in SatPocket.

Forgot your passcode?

On the lock screen, tap Forgot passcode. SatPocket explains that you need to log out, restore the wallet with your recovery phrase, and then set a new passcode. Your funds stay on the blockchain.
